Odie’s Waiting for a Safe Landing

Down at Woodward Animal Control, behind a simple chain-link gate, a dog named Odie is waiting. He’s about a year and a half old—still full of puppy hope, still wagging his tail when someone walks by. He doesn’t know why he’s there. He just knows he wants to go home.

The folks at WOOF Pet Rescue posted his photo this week. They called him “friendly,” “well-mannered,” and “good with dogs and bigger kids.” He sits on command and loves splashing in water puddles—just a good boy who’s had a rough stretch.

Right now, Odie doesn’t need much. Just a safe place to land. A porch to nap on. A person to trust.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering—or if your heart’s been tugged seeing one of these posts—this might be your moment. The WOOF team can help with everything you need. Sometimes, love shows up in fur and muddy paws.

Odie’s story is simple, but so is his hope: that someone will open their heart and say, “You’re home now.”

Every rescue is a second chance—for them, and for us.
“The righteous care for the needs of their animals.” – Proverbs 12:10

Pappy Dunbar’s General Store was the heart of Main Street in Woodward, Oklahoma, serving generations with flour, hardware, and good-humored gossip—all behind a front door that had never been locked since 1893.

Pappy himself wore overalls six days a week, pocket watch on Sundays, and believed a handshake meant more...

(A peek at life in Woodward, 73 years ago!)

Step back in time to 1952 with the Woodward County Journal, when local life was full of community charm and sweet simplicity.

📰 This Week’s Recipe: Pecan Pie
Shared by Mrs. Jess Hedges of Vici — a classic Oklahoma favorite straight from the pages of history! The recipe called for pie shell, eggs, sugar, Karo syrup, vanilla, and chopped pecans — the kind of pie that probably graced many Thanksgiving tables across the county.

🍂 Around Town in 1952:

  • The Methodist and Christian church families enjoyed Halloween parties and a “wiener roast in the park.”

  • Reuben Kirkwood returned from Nebraska “with a load of corn.”

  • Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stump announced a new granddaughter born in New York.

  • Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Bleckley of Woodward welcomed baby John David — seven pounds, eight ounces!

"Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller." - Ibn Battuta

Back in March 1894, Woodward, Oklahoma stood on the brink of outlaw fame when notorious bandits Bill Doolin and Bill Dalton of the Wild Bunch slid into town.

Locals were settling in for the night as these infamous outlaws skipped a full-blown train heist but brazenly...
