Woodward Public Library Receives $10,000 Gift from Carnegie Corporation |
Historic Donation Echoes Library's Founding Legacy |
Woodward Public Library has been honored with a generous $10,000 donation from the Carnegie Corporation, marking a significant moment in the institution's history.
This contribution mirrors the original $10,000 gift from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1917, which established the library's first building at 1217 8th St.
Today, the library operates from its location at 1500 Main Street, continuing its mission to serve the community.
Library Director Connie Terry, who began her journey with the library as a part-time employee during high school, expressed profound gratitude for the donation.
Reflecting on her 46 years of service, she emphasized the enduring impact of such support on the library's ability to provide resources and programs to the Woodward community.
The funds are earmarked for enhancing the library's services, including expanding the collection, upgrading technology, and introducing new community programs.
Upcoming events include the Morning Book Club on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 AM and the Unwind & Unravel craft sessions held on the second and fourth Mondays from 2:00-4:00 PM.
These initiatives aim to foster a vibrant, educated community by providing equal access to information and innovative services.
The library's history is deeply intertwined with community support.
In 1899, the Coterie Club raised $200 during a 4th of July picnic to purchase the first collection of books, laying the foundation for what would become the Woodward Public Library.
This recent donation from the Carnegie Corporation not only honors that legacy but also propels the library into a future of continued service and growth.
