From Candles to Chicken Salad: The Story of A Touch of Home

How a Cozy Gift Shop Became Woodward’s Most Beloved Breakfast and Lunch Spot

Before the scent of sizzling sausage filled the air, customers were greeted by the soft glow of candles and the comforting aroma of handmade soaps and “smell goods.” That was the original vision of A Touch of Home—a charming little gift shop where you came to pick out a thoughtful present and maybe linger a while.

But over the years, something unexpected happened.

People didn’t just come to browse. They came to stay. They came hungry.

The Gift Shop with a Heart

At first, A Touch of Home was a place for slow afternoons—shopping for candles, seasonal décor, maybe grabbing a cup of coffee while chatting with the friendly owners. The store lived up to its name: comforting, nostalgic, and deeply rooted in community.

But as more folks popped in daily, conversations turned toward food.

“Have you ever thought about serving breakfast?” they’d ask.
And so, the transformation began.

From Wax to Wraps

What started as a simple offering of snacks and small bites evolved quickly. Soon, you could order a breakfast burrito made with egg, sausage or bacon, cheese, and tater tots—topped off with jalapeños or avocado for those who wanted a kick.

Then came the Chicken Salad Croissant, loaded with shredded chicken breast, cranberries, golden raisins, broccoli, and nuts—a customer favorite that still sells out faster than candles ever did.

The menu continued to grow. People fell in love with:

  • The Monte Cristo (served with red raspberry preserves, no less)

  • The bold Sweet N’ Spicy Pizza with pepperoni, jalapeĂąos, and honey drizzle

  • And the Strawberry & Blueberry Salads, fresh, light, and topped with toasted almonds and feta.

Rise of a Local Favorite

Today, A Touch of Home is a breakfast-and-lunch institution in Woodward. Whether it’s the Keto Sandwich for low-carb lovers, the Caprese Sandwich on rosemary focaccia, or the decadent Naughty Tots smothered in Colby Jack cheese, bacon, and ranch drizzle—there’s something for everyone.

Locals rave about:

  • Build-Your-Own Smash Burgers

  • Turkey Cranberry Wraps

  • House-Made Pasta Salad with mozzarella pearls

  • And of course, a good ol’ fashioned Avocado Toast with everything bagel seasoning

The drinks menu alone could power the whole town:
Iced Lattes, Frappes, London Fogs, Boomer Black & Golds, Bulletproof Coffee—you name it.

Still Home, Always Home

Even though the gift shelves eventually made room for prep stations and espresso machines, the essence of A Touch of Home has never changed.

It’s the place where:

  • First dates become anniversaries

  • Workers grab coffee at dawn

  • Grandparents treat grandkids to pancakes

  • And every meal feels like it was made just for you

Walk in any weekday from 6 AM to 3 PM, and you’ll find Woodward gathered—over croissants, casseroles, and conversation.
