Innovative Curriculum Prepares Students for Careers in Unmanned Aerial Systems |
Woodward High School in Oklahoma is launching an innovative drone program, offering students a comprehensive four-year curriculum in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
This initiative, developed in partnership with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), provides two distinct pathways: a pilot track and a UAS track.
Students opting for the UAS pathway will gain hands-on experience in drone operations, covering topics from basic flight principles to advanced applications like aerial mapping and inspections.
The program aims to equip students with the skills necessary for careers in the rapidly expanding drone industry, which spans sectors such as agriculture, construction, and filmmaking.
By integrating FAA regulations and practical flight training, the curriculum ensures that graduates are well-prepared for professional opportunities or advanced certifications like the Part 107 license.
Woodward's commitment to aviation education is further supported by its proximity to West Woodward Airport, providing students with access to real-world aviation facilities.
This program reflects a broader trend in Oklahoma, where numerous high schools are adopting AOPA's "You Can Fly" curriculum to address workforce needs in the state's thriving aerospace sector.
By offering this program, Woodward High School is positioning its students at the forefront of the evolving drone industry, preparing them for a range of career opportunities in this dynamic field. |
